ATS Welcomes New Leaders of the International Conference Committee
The American Thoracic Society is proud to announce the appointment of two distinguished leaders to guide the future of the ATS International Conference, the world’s premier meeting in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.
Jennifer L. Taylor-Cousar, MD, MSCS ATSF, will serve as chair of the International Conference Committee (ICC) from May 2025 to May 2027. A clinician-scientist and professor of medicine and pediatrics at National Jewish Health and the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Dr. Taylor-Cousar is globally recognized for her leadership in cystic fibrosis research and her commitment to mentoring the next generation of investigators. As an ATS Fellow and dedicated contributor to the Society, she brings strategic vision, collaborative spirit, and deep scientific expertise to the ICC.
Paul D. Robinson, MD, MRCPCH, PhD, FRACP, ATSF, will assume the ICC chair role following Dr. Taylor-Cousar, from May 2027 to May 2029. A professor of pediatric respiratory and sleep medicine and clinician-scientist based at Queensland Children’s Hospital and the University of Queensland, Dr. Robinson is internationally regarded for his contributions to lung function testing and pediatric respiratory health. As an ATS Fellow and longstanding contributor to ATS, he is celebrated for his consensus-building leadership style and global perspective.
Both leaders bring unique strengths that will ensure the continued success, inclusivity, and scientific excellence of the ATS International Conference. Please join us in welcoming Drs. Taylor-Cousar and Robinson to their new roles!
Opening Ceremony: Keynote Speaker Kimberly D. Manning, MD, MACP
The ATS 2025 International Conference will kick off with an inspiring Opening Ceremony on Saturday, May 17, featuring a keynote from Kimberly D. Manning, MD, MACP.
A trailblazing physician, educator, and storyteller, Dr. Manning is celebrated for her innovative approach to medical education and mentorship, earning numerous national awards. Her impactful storytelling shines in journals, social media, and her podcast, The Human Doctor.

Plenary Session: Speaker Len Geiger, Double Lung Transplant Recipient
Don’t miss the ATS 2025 Plenary Session on Tuesday, May 20, in San Francisco – a cornerstone event celebrating innovation, collaboration, and patient-centered care.
This year’s speaker, Len Geiger, a double lung transplant recipient and advocate for Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency awareness, will share his inspiring journey and call for greater collaboration, empathy, and innovation in respiratory medicine.

Melanin Magnificence: A Black Health Experience
The ATS and the California Thoracic Society are joining forces with the Bayview YMCA’s African American Holistic Wellness program to host a free health fair for the San Francisco community on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA.
This event will offer a variety of activities, including fitness classes, “The Doctor Speaks” sessions led by ATS medical professionals, and more; and is designed to break down health care barriers, promote health equity, and enhance the local community’s quality of life. Learn more!

Rattle the BEAR Cage
Get ready for the high-stakes entertainment at the ATS 2025 BEAR Cage Competition! This “Shark Tank”-style event showcases three early-stage investigators as they pitch groundbreaking, human-focused research proposals to a panel of experts from academia, industry, and government.
Finalists will compete for a grand prize of $10,000, live before judges and an audience. Two runners-up will each earn $2,500. Mark your calendars to cheer the finalists on: 1:30-3:30 p.m., Monday, May 19!
